Westminster College Hosts First-Ever MUN with Global Vision and Local Impact

Kupondole, Lalitpur. The Westminster College proudly hosted its first-ever Model United Nations (MUN)Westminster MUN 1.0 - from 20 to 22 June 2025, at college premises. This student-led diplomatic simulation event brought together over 150 delegates from diverse educational institutions across the Kathmandu Valley.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Arun Lal Joshi, Head of The Westminster College, who lit the traditional ‘Panas’ to mark the beginning of the three-day event. In his inaugural address to the Secretary General, committee presidents, vice presidents, delegates, and organizing teams, he stated:

“As the Head of Westminster College, I am proud. Proud not just of what has been created here today, but of the message it sends - that this institution stands for global engagement, youth empowerment, and the relentless pursuit of understanding in a complicated world.”

Seven Diverse Committees, One Platform for Dialogue

The MUN hosted seven dynamic committees:

  • United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
  • United Nations Security Council (UNSC)
  • Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC)
  • King's Cabinet
  • International Court of Justice (ICJ)
  • United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
  • International Press (IP)

Each committee facilitated engaging, logical, and diplomatic debates on global issues, showcasing the critical thinking and negotiation skills of the participating delegates.

A Cultural & Social Showcase

  • Day 1 - Traditional Theme & Artist Night:
    Delegates arrived in traditional dress, celebrating cultural diversity. The day concluded with Socials - Artist Night, where the Tatkaal Band delivered a rocking performance.
  • Day 2 - Semi-Formal & Game Night:
    Delegates wore semi-formal attire and enjoyed a relaxed evening with Bingo and Musical Chair games.
  • Day 3 – Formal Masquerade & Closing Ceremony:
    The final day featured the Closing Ceremonyaward distribution, and a Masquerade Ball, where everyone arrived in formal dress to celebrate the event’s grand success.
