Krishna Budhathoki | Learning does not only take place within the four walls of a classroom. Sometimes, it lies in the winding roads of the Himalayas, the silent strength of ancient temples, and the vibrant culture of remote settlements. Embracing this philosophy, The Westminster College organized an educational and cultural tour to Upper Mustang and its surrounding destinations from 21st to 25th November 2025.
This five-day, four-night expedition was not just a trip, but a deeply enriching experience that blended adventure, learning, culture, teamwork, and self-discovery.

Day 1: Departure & Journey Towards the Himalayas – 21 November 2025
The journey began early, as students and faculty departed from the college campus filled with excitement and anticipation. After facing heavy traffic along the Nagdhunga–Muglin highway, the group enjoyed breakfast at Trishuli Riverside Resort.
By the evening, the team reached Pokhara, enjoying scenic views on the way before finally arriving at Hotel Gyan Gauri Palace, Beni Bazar.
Despite traffic interruptions and vehicle complications, the enthusiasm remained high as the group rested in preparation for the next adventurous day.

Day 2: Cultural Exploration & Spiritual Awakening – 22 November 2025
After breakfast, the group set out at 7:00 AM for a spiritually and culturally enriching experience.
Key highlights included:

  • Galeshwor Dham
  • Rupse Waterfall at
  • Lunch at Rato Ghar, Muktinath
  • Visit to the holy Muktinath Temple

The visit to the holy Muktinath Temple was an amazing experience. A small hike above 3800m was in itself a great challenge and a refreshing escapade.
The journey continued towards Chhusang/Sammar. After some bumpy roads and cool breezes, the group made it to Karma Inn, Sammar. As the altitude increased, the day proved slightly challenging; however, with proper guidance and care, all students adjusted well and rested for the night.

Day 3: Exploring the Heart of Mustang – 23 November 2025
Day 3 was the most immersive as students stepped into the cultural heart of Upper Mustang. The group departed very early and embarked on a journey through Jomsom Bazaar, mythical landscapes, monasteries, and the distinctive Mustang environment. The raw terrain, ancient caves, traditional Tibetan-style settlements, and local lifestyle created a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
After 3-4 hours of travelling, the group made it to Lo-Manthang.  After a refreshing breakfast, the group continued their travel to the Korala Border.
This day became a powerful lesson in geography, climate, history, and human resilience, teaching students lessons that no textbook could offer.

Day 4: Relaxation, Nature & City Life – 24 November 2025
After leaving Marpha Orchard Hotel, the group continued their exploration towards Tatopani Hot Springs. After spending some time there, we headed to Baglung Kalika Temple & Gandaki Golden Bridge and followed with Lunch at HK Thakali.
Though some planned sites like Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, and Pumdikot were skipped, the group made the most of Pokhara:

  • Checked into Hotel Guru Grand
  • Boating at Phewa Lake and a visit to Taal Barahi Temple
  • Exploring Lakeside and enjoying evening vibes
  • Dinner at 8:30 PM

Many students later explored the city’s nightlife, enjoying Pokhara’s vibrant atmosphere.

Day 5: Return with Memories – 25 November 2025
The final day began with breakfast at 7:30 AM, followed by departure at 8:15 AM. After lunch, once again at Trishuli Riverside Resort, the group arrived back at the college by 5:45 PM. The return journey was smooth, filled with shared stories, laughter, photos, and unforgettable memories.

More Than Just a Tour
This Upper Mustang Tour was not merely a recreational trip. It was an educational expedition that strengthened:

  • Teamwork & bonding
  • Cultural awareness
  • Environmental understanding
  • Mental resilience
  • Real-world learning beyond textbooks

Students experienced Nepal’s diverse geography, religion, climate, and culture firsthand, an opportunity that will stay with them forever.
